NorthStarDb can be a stand-alone program, (NorthStarDb Limited) or used with the latest FileMaker version (FM 8, 8.5, or 9),

NorthStarDb is built upon years of experience and feedback from many nonprofits around the country regarding what they want and need in a database.

NorthStarDb Limited with free FileMaker Runtime

The NorthStarDb limited version provides even the smallest, most cash strapped organization with an affordable starting point for fund-raising and managing constituent interactions. Note: The source for NorthStarDb limited is not open and it is not
intended to be used with a full copy of FileMaker. The FileMaker
runtime does not allow editing of FileMaker scripts and layouts.

NorthStarDb and FileMaker

NorthStarDb, used with current versions of FileMaker Pro (FM 8, 8.5, 9.0) and FileMaker Server, provides a local area network solution for up to 200 users.

When used with FileMaker Pro NorthStarDb is "open source," in that it allows experienced FM developers get under the hood to make customizations when needed.

FileMaker itself is a product of FileMaker NorthStarDb is made with FileMaker Developer tools and the FileMaker runtime engine distributed with NorthStarDb Limited is distributed in accordance with FileMaker licensing.

unlikely that it will ever "make money". That is not it's
first goal. For the past 10 years I have been involved with small
non-profit organizations who genuinely need a good database but who
cannot afford the commercial alternatives or the support and
consulting costs associated with those alternatives. I think that
FileMaker with NorthStarDb provide one of the few database product
combinations that meet the price point necessary for the smallest
non-profit to adopt it. "

BASIC FEATURES

  • Store Name, Address, phone and email information.

  • Contact name and address storage to accommodate individual, family, or organization contacts.

  • Store Payment, Pledge, and Membership information.

  • Store basic political information.

  • Store events and dates in the NorthStarDb Calendar.

  • Use user defined "Items and Actions" to store a virtually unlimited number of custom contact characteristics, interests, actions.

  • Define groups inside your database with either Items and Actions entries or quick find groups.

  • Use built-in reports,

  • Design custom reports using FileMaker Pro, or export data for use in programs such as Word or Excel

  • Export data to a number of standard data formats including Excel and CSV
