NorthStarDB 1.00 and FileMaker

 

Flexible -NorthStarDb works equally well on PCs, MACs and in mixed platform organizations with both PCs and MACs on the same network.

NorthStarDb, when used with FileMaker 8.5 or 9 software, provides a local area network solution for up to 200 users. When used with FileMaker, NorthStarDb is an "open source" solution allowing experienced FM developers get under the hood and make customizations when needed.

What do I need to use NorthStarDb on my network?
Clients
Each machine accessing NorthStarDb over a network must have a licensed copy of FM9 (or 8.5)

Host
One machine on your network must act as host. This will hold your NorthStarDb Files. The host machine may use FileMaker Pro and FileMaker peer-peer hosting or may use FileMaker Server.

FileMaker Server is recommended if at all possible as it provides a much safer and more stable system.

Host Requirements
* Windows 2000/XP or
* Mac OS X (PPC or Intel) or
* Windows Vista (with FMP 8.5 v2)
* 800 MHz or faster CPU
* At least 500 MB RAM
* Fast hard drive (7200 rpm or better).
* The host or server computer must not use wireless networking.

Network Requirements
* For best performance the network must use a 10/100 or better Ethernet switch.

PC -
Hardware Requirements
* Intel Pentium-compatible computer 600 MHz or faster (faster is always better)
* 500 MB RAM or more
Software Requirements
* FileMaker Pro 8 or above
* Windows 2000/XP or
* Windows Vista (with FMP 8.5 v2)

MAC-
Hardware Requirements
* Apple G4 computer or higher (PPC or Intel)
* 500 MB RAM or more
* CD-ROM drive
Software Requirements
* FileMaker Pro 8 or higher
* Mac OS X Tiger or above
