UPDATING NORTHSTARDB

UPDATING NORTHSTARDB

Licensed users of NorthStarDb receive a special username and ID for this web site to allow them to access updater versions and from time to time other "Insider" information about NorthStarDb. The initial Insider / Updater access lasts for one year from the data of purchasing their full NorthStarDb license. After the first year License holders are given the option of continuing their update access at a very reasonable price.

COMPUTER SKILLS NEEDED

Updating your older version of NorthStarDb to the latest version is not hard but is also not “automatic.” If you follow the process outlined here, you should readily be able to migrate to the latest version without diffaculty.

To successfully update to the latest version of NorthStarDb you will need some very basic computer skills.

  • You will need to be able to make a backup copy of your NorthStarDb Files.
  • You will need to be able to find the folder in which NorthStarDb is installed.
  • You will need to be able to copy and paste specific files.
  • You will need to be able to unzip a zipped file (PC) or mount and copy from a Disk Image (MAC).
  • If your NorthStarDb is used with FileMaker Server you will need to know how to stop and start your FM Server and copy files between locations / Machines.

REPORTS TABLE AND CUSTOMIZED NORTHSTARDB FILES NOTE

NorthStarDb has three core files. NorthStarDbData, NorthStarDB and NorthStarDBReports. Two of these are replaced in upgrades. Any user-made programing or field customizations to NorthStarDbData or NorthStarDB will be overwritten in the upgrade process.

NorthStarDBReports is the planned location for any custom reports or other custom layouts you may need to add to NorthStarDb. In most updates NorthStarDBReports is not updated or included in the update package.

USER NAMES AND PASSWORDS NOTE

The user names and passwords you may have setup cannot always be automatically moved to the new NorthStarDb version. The functional passwords may be reset to the original default passwords.
